a toy story bday!

Woody's Roundup
Right here every day
Woody's Roundup
come on, it's time to play
There's Jessie, the yodeling cowgirl
(yo-de-la, you-de-la, yo-de-la)
Bullseye, he's woody's horse
(grrr...he's a smart one)
Pete the old prospector
and Woody the man himself
of course
It's time for Woody's Roundup
He's the very best
He's the rootinest tootinest cowboy
in the wild wild west

Woody's Roundup
Come on, gather round
Woody's Roundup
Where nobody wears a frown
Bad guys go running
Whenever he's in town
He's the rootinest, tootinest, shootinest, hootinest cowboy around
Woody's Roundup.....
To infinity & Beyond!

My step son had his 6th bday on august 23rd. Unfortunately that's a monday so we had his little bday party on Saturday. He loves woody and buzz. I introduced the movie to him when he was 3 and he fell in love. Come on cowboy and a space ranger how much better can it get???? Of course it helped that I love toy story too :)

Anyways I decided to make him a toy story cake. at first I was talking to my daughter about it . I told her I wanted to make a toy story cake, but needed an idea on how to do it. She came up with making andys bed! I was so proud of her. I started sketching to see how to make it. Then I looked it up online..... There were a ton of them ... oh well it was a good idea.
So hubby was told he has to work on saturday :( and he is my chief fondant roller. lol So we decided to start making the cakes on friday. I would not tell D what kind of cake I was making I wanted it to be a surprise. Kourtney and I made 3 9x13 cakes...
one strawberry
one milk chocolate
one white (D picked it out im not sure why he wanted that flavor)
I made the first 2 cakes just fine. they came out just wonderful. but then I made the white cake. It stuck to the pan. I thought well I can fix it, and put that layer in the middle. So when i went to flip it... the other side stuck. I wanted to cry. Luckily I had bought 2 white cakes before I had the Neapolitan look idea.

We assembled them on top of each other with cream cheese frosting.
Then rolled out the fondant (I still had some of the blue from kourts mad hatter cake). We shaped it to kinda look like a bedspread, folded at the corners at the bottom. Then we added some green dye to the fondant and made a sheet.
At that point it had gotten late so I told hubby I would just decorate it in the morning...
8Am.... I start making chocolate rice crispy treats for the headboard. I wanted it to harden before I shaped it. Then I realized I needed pillows for the bed.
So I cut some shapes out of the cake that had mangled. I had the not so bright idea while melting the marshmellows for the rice crispy treats, to melt marhamellows and coat the cake for the pillows, as the big marshmellows were just too small for the bed.
Well we will just say it was not pretty and my daughter had a great laugh.
Rice crispys got cut out and I mixed black dye in frosting and wrote D's name across the headboard. then I made lines across the bed. Next I mixed yellow dye in some frosting and made little dots at each X of the blanket.
As I was looking at the leftover rice crispy treats ( and eating them lol) I decided to try to shape pillows out of them. It worked great and I frosted them white.
Now remember I did not want D to see this I wanted to make a surprise... Ever try to keep a 6 yr old out when he knows you don't want him somewhere?
It took me a LOOOOOOOng time but I got it together and place lil toy story ppl around the cake... woody buzz, that little doll with robot legs, green army men, a top, a ball, and some heads of hamm trex and slinky i found on pez dispensers at the dollar store....

Anyways My sister , her fiance, and their son came over, and Rileys girlfriend (whom D had said a couple days before... that he was going to steal her from riley), and hubby made it home.
I covered D's eyes and brought him out....
The look on his face was well worth it!
Hubby had bought one of those big tubs of Neapolitan ice cream, and cake.
D got one of those cool air hogs from my sister. $5 from my mom, and we had gotten him a thomas the tank railroad, and a stormtrooper helmet that talks....
he was estatic......
Here's some pix!
Enjoy!

Everyone's mad around here....

Some people have asked about my daughters mad hatter tea party back in march. I posted some pics of the stuff we had made but they wanted to see how it went. For food we had finger sandwiches, pickles, olives black and green, cheese and crackers and peperoni. The girls had pop. and they each got an UNbirthday cupcake. I made the cake. And we played a game similar to dirty santa. I bought a small gift from the dollar store for each guest, and different bags, big and small. I stapled them shut so no one could see what they were. We drew numbers. Number one went and picked out a bag, opened it. Number two either took number ones gift or picked a bag. Number three could take the gift from either one or pick their own, and so on until the last number. BUT... number one got to take someone elses or stick with what they had. It was alot of fun. My daughter said she was to old for playing games lol. Unfortunately we planned for this party for close to a year. and it just so happened that that one day at the end of march we got snow... LOTS of snow! We ended up with 2 of the girls getting stuck here.
But it was fun. I found a ton of really cool games to play with littler kids on the internet. But my daughter wanted to be a party pooper lol.

anyways heres some pics!
